The ability to predict the growth of damage in composite materials under fatigue loading is a necessity in order to optimize the use of such materials. In this regard, in continuation of what have been done at MTM composite group on damage mechanisms, the fatigue behavior of a CFRP (epoxy) quasi-isotropic system was studied. The undertaken tasks in this study were such as:
Plate laminating of carbon / epoxy prepregs.
Controlling the laminated plates’ quality by Ultrasonic
Cutting and polishing the edge of specimens
Measuring mechanical properties of specimens (e.g. E modules, residual strength)
Fatiguing the specimens and monitoring its damage development by aid of NDT (X-ray radiography, Acoustic Emission)

Summer internship in Process Development Dept.
The detergent production process is simple and consists of two major steps: blowing and packing with storage in between. Blowing is an old technology, where several materials are blown into a large reactor. Because this technology is outdated and because the nature of products is changing, detergents are getting more compact, the production has changed from continuous blowing to a new batch production process. Given these changes, it was important for the company to fine-tune the production process to arrive at the desired characteristics of the new product. In this regard, the following activities were carried out:
Conducting factorial analysis experiments on a pilot plant process
Controlling the product quality by chemical, physical and mechanical tests
